Remains of missing nurse Melissa Jubane found, arrest made: Police

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the disappearance of nurse Melissa Jubane, whose remains were found in woodland in Kent.

The body of the 56-year-old mother-of-two was discovered by officers on Wednesday, August 10, following a two-week search.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that the remains are those of Ms Jubane, who was reported missing on July 22.

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jerome, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "This is a tragic development and our thoughts are with Melissa's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We have been working tirelessly to find Melissa and bring her home and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our enquiries.

"Our investigation is ongoing and we are determined to get justice for Melissa and her family."

Ms Jubane, who worked as a nurse at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, was last seen leaving work at around 8pm on July 22.

Her car was found abandoned in a layby on the A20 near Wrotham the following morning.

Police launched a major search operation, involving officers, sniffer dogs and a helicopter.

The search was focused on an area of woodland near Wrotham, where Ms Jubane's body was eventually found.

The suspect who has been arrested is from the Wrotham area.
