WEB DIE LINKE is a socialist party that stands for alternatives for a better future. It fights for a society of democratic, peaceful, and social solidarity. The German delegation of DIE LINKE is committed to working towards these goals in Germany and beyond.
Die Linke is the democratic successor to the former Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the SED was dissolved and reformed as the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS). In 2007, the PDS merged with the Labor and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative (WASG) to form Die Linke.
Die Linke is a member of the Party of the European Left (PEL) and the European United Left–Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) group in the European Parliament. It is also a founding member of the Progressive International.
The party's platform is based on the principles of democracy, socialism, and internationalism. Die Linke supports a strong social safety net, public ownership of key industries, and a peaceful foreign policy.
In the 2021 German federal election, Die Linke won 4.9% of the vote and 39 seats in the Bundestag. The party is currently in opposition to the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
